A professional speaker is a person who gets paid by an external customer to deliver the spoken word in the form of a motivational keynote, an informative speech, a training session, a facilitated event, a consulting presentation or coaching session.

If you are paid by your company to give a speech, you are an industry speaker. You may speak very well, but the difference is that someone else is willing to pay you real money for that speech.

If you are a professional speaker (or want to become a professional speaker), then I strongly suggest you check out the National Speakers Association (NSA).

NSA is the genesis for this work….I spent hours and hours going through our video library culling specific examples of how to make your presentations more engaging and interactive. As such, I freely give this information (and my handouts and book) to my fellow association speakers. It is not my intent, nor will it ever be my intent to sell this material to the association that blessed me with the inspiration and the support to create this body of work.
