Hi Lynda! You're most welcome! I suggest using round tables and if possible, leave the spots at the table closest to the front without any chairs. No on likes to have their back to the presenter! Hope this helps!

Hi Kristin, thanks for these great room set-up tips. I am just in the midst of sending a room set-up recommendationt a client I am presenting for in March. The group size is 75 and they will work in small groups during some of this time. Do you have suggestions for room set-up when tables of 6-8 participants per table will be part of the composition? I welcome your suggestions should you see this comment. Your book looks terrific too! Best wishes on and off the stage, Lynda

Hope you are talking about a "blog" and not a "block" Diane! But block out rhymes with knock out, so maybe that was intended! :-) Thanks for chiming in!

Great suggestions, Kristin, to which I would add: Place the laptop so you can view the monitor while at the front of the room. It should be visible with just a sideways glance. Too many presenters put the laptop in an inconvenient spot. That forces them to turn around to A) verify that the correct slide is showing, and B) begin talking about it.

I place the laptop near me and to the left. With a quick glance I can see what the audience sees and still continue to provide maximum eye contact.

I heard Kristin Arnold at the Ohio NSA last summer. I was given a copy of her book and the only words I can come up with is wow! It is not a book to read, but one that you learn and grow by in being an effective presenter. i am using a few of the techniques from the book currently.

As a speaker, I can always think of something to say. It might not be what I was supposed to say, but something will come out of my mouth. Have a theme or a "mantra" to fall back on. If you keep repeating it throughout the speech, the audience will think any interjection of it is intentional.
